Self-paced prep for the current TABE, guided by a dedicated Academic Mentor.
TABE test prep at Mountain Point Academy is self-paced online coursework in reading, mathematics and language, guided by a dedicated Academic Mentor. Your course opens with a placement exam, so you work the gaps it finds instead of starting at lesson one in every subject.
The TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) measures foundational reading, math and language skills. Adult education programs use it at intake to decide where to place you, and some workforce, trade and allied-health programs do the same. Nobody passes or fails it. Where it puts you decides what you study next.
The current TABE is forms 13 and 14. Forms 11 and 12 were retired for adult education reporting on June 30, 2025, so a study guide built around them is out of date. Confirm which version and which content areas your testing program uses, because that is set locally.
Content area | What it measures | Levels |
|---|---|---|
Reading | Comprehension, vocabulary, interpreting written information | L, E, M, D, A |
Mathematics | Number sense, operations, algebraic reasoning, geometry, data | L, E, M, D, A |
Language | Grammar, sentence structure, usage, mechanics of writing | L, E, M, D, A |
Levels run from L (literacy) through E, M and D to A (advanced), assigned from a locator or a prior score, so two people sitting “the TABE” can sit quite different tests. Data Recognition Corporation publishes it, and forms 13 and 14 are approved for National Reporting System use through June 20, 2027.
There is no listening section on the current TABE. Listening was on the retired TABE 9 and 10, and it appears on CLAS-E, a separate assessment for English language learners.

Mountain Point Academy has been Cognia accredited since January 2020. See our accreditation and certification page.
Math is where most students lose ground on the TABE, and a low math placement can hold back a whole training track.
Prep starts from your placement results and narrows: fractions and percentages if that is the gap, algebraic reasoning if arithmetic is already solid. Your mentor reviews errors with you rather than sending you back through a lesson you already failed. Applied problems get particular attention, since TABE math questions usually sit inside a real situation and the reading is often what makes them hard.
How long it takes depends on what the placement exam finds and how many hours a week you can put in.
Flexible monthly plans, no hidden fees. What you need varies, so we go through cost with you on the consultation.
Utah K-12 residents can apply Utah Fits All Scholarship funds here; tutoring and test prep are approved expense categories, and applications open in the spring. Any fee for sitting the TABE is charged separately by whoever administers it.

Forms 13 and 14. They replaced forms 11 and 12, retired for adult education reporting on June 30, 2025, and are approved through June 20, 2027. A practice test labelled 11 and 12 is out of date.
There isn't one. The TABE produces a scale score and a level rather than a pass or a fail, and whoever requires the test sets what score puts you where. Ask them, then bring the answer to your consultation.
It depends on where your placement exam puts you and how many hours a week you can study. Your mentor builds pacing around your situation rather than a fixed course length.
Yes, and it is the most requested part. Your placement exam narrows the coursework to the math you are actually missing, and your mentor reviews errors with you.
No, we prepare you for it. The TABE is published by Data Recognition Corporation and administered by adult education, workforce and testing sites. We do award our own Cognia-accredited high school diploma, which is a different thing.
Accommodations on the exam are approved by the site giving you the test, so start early. What we provide is academic support, flexible pacing, and work with existing IEP or 504 documentation as part of placement and planning.
Tuition depends on what you need, so we cover it on your free consultation. Monthly plans are available with no hidden fees, and Utah families may be able to apply Utah Fits All Scholarship funding.
