Self-paced ACCUPLACER prep for college placement, guided by a dedicated Academic Mentor.
Online ACCUPLACER test prep at Mountain Point Academy is a self-paced course that gets you ready for the college placement tests in reading, writing, and math. You start with a placement exam, so your study time goes to the skills that need it most. A dedicated Academic Mentor checks in with you every week, and tutoring is available on request.
ACCUPLACER is College Board’s placement test. Colleges use it to match you with courses at the right level, and no one passes or fails it.
The test is computer-adaptive, so each answer you give sets the difficulty of the next question. In most cases there’s no time limit, though the school or test center giving the test confirms the rules.
Your school decides which ACCUPLACER tests you take and what scores place you into each course. Ask for that list early, because it tells you exactly what to prep for.
The multiple-choice reading, writing, and math tests are each scored from 200 to 300. WritePlacer, the essay test, has its own scale.
| Test | What it measures | Score range |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | Understanding single and paired passages, and the meaning of words and phrases in context | 200 to 300 |
| Writing | Revising and editing multiparagraph text | 200 to 300 |
| Arithmetic | Whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and comparing values in different formats | 200 to 300 |
| Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) | Rational numbers, ratios and proportions, exponents, linear equations, probability, statistics, and geometry concepts | 200 to 300 |
| Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) | Factoring, quadratics, functions, polynomial, radical, rational, exponential, and logarithmic equations, and trigonometry | 200 to 300 |
| WritePlacer essay | Writing an organized, well-supported essay. The position you take does not affect your score. | 1 to 8 |
| ESL tests (Reading Skills, Language Use, Sentence Meaning, Listening) | English language skills for English language learners | 20 to 120 |

No, we prepare you for it. Your college or an approved test center schedules the test and shares your results, and you can also request your scores through College Board's ACCUPLACER Student Portal. Your mentor can help you pick a test date that leaves enough prep time.
No one passes or fails the ACCUPLACER. It's a placement test, so your scores decide which courses you start in. How challenging it feels depends on your current skills, which is why our prep starts with a placement exam that shows you where to focus.
It depends on your school and the course you want. Reading, writing, and math tests are scored from 200 to 300, and each college sets its own placement scores, so a 260 can place you into a college-level course at one school but not another. Check your school's placement chart, and your mentor can help you plan.
In most cases, no. College Board says the tests have no time limit, and the school or test center giving the test confirms its rules. Because the test is adaptive, it's worth taking your time on each question instead of rushing.
Yes, if you have documented accommodations. Contact the school or test center giving the test well before test day to learn its process. On our side, your Academic Mentor can plan your prep around the supports you've been approved for.
College Board offers free official practice tests once you create an account, downloadable sample questions, and free ACCUPLACER Perspective learning exercises. Our course adds a placement exam, lessons built around your gaps, and a mentor who keeps you on schedule.
