In a post-COVID world, many more people were exposed to online learning and what it had to offer. However, did anyone really stop to consider the benefits of what online learning brings?
Here are some of the biggest benefits we have seen from online learning:
1. The ability to go at your own pace
- You can pick the pace you need to go at- if you need to slow down to dive into concepts more, YOU CAN
- If you already have a good understanding of the topics, you can MOVE ON
- Because online learning can be flexible, classes can be tailored to fit your learning needs and you can learn in your own way at your own time. Learn how to enroll in an online school to get started.
We firmly believe that students will learn at their own pace, so much so that one of the posters we have posted in our office looks just like this:

We couldn’t agree more with this quote by William Spady! Online learning can provide the flexibility to help students learn on their timeline in a structured environment that will help them learn in the best way FOR THEM.
2. Opportunity to accelerate
- For highly motivated students, online learning presents an opportunity for them to achieve more schooling in the same timeframe as a traditional school setting
- Since online learning is year-round, students can also take additional classes in the summer to either get ahead or potentially make up missed credits from the previous school year so they can be on-pace with their class when school starts up again the next school year
3. Flexibility to work around your schedule
- With an asynchronous learning environment here at MPA, students are able to login when they have availability
What does that mean for students?
- This allows students to take their learning/schooling “on the go” with no requirements to login at specific times, but allows them to set their schedule while opening up new opportunities like travel, outdoor recreation, and other hands-on activities they might enjoy
- As long as there’s an internet connection, you can take school ANYWHERE!
If you’re wondering what that flexibility looks like in practice — including how coursework is structured, what a typical week involves, and how mentor check-ins fit into an asynchronous model — this breakdown of how online high school works walks through the operational side.
4. Do more of the things you love
- Along with the flexibility of working around your schedule, students will have extra time to participate in activities they love
- like dance, music, and other extracurricular activities
- BONUS: Mountain Point Academy allows you the opportunity to also get high school credit for those things you are already doing. Give us a call to find out how!
- Maintain a better school-life balance by choosing to take time for the things you love. This frees you up mentally, physically, and emotionally to live your best life.
- We believe that a part of a balanced life/education is also maintaining your mental health, so we encourage as much hands-on activity as possible!
If you’re considering online school as your path to a diploma, it helps to first understand how many credits you need to graduate high school and how self-paced learning can help you get there.
5. Learn how to self-motivate and accomplish goals
- Having to go at your own pace will allow for opportunities to grow and learn how to accomplish goals
- At MPA, assigned Academic Mentors can help you set goals while holding you accountable, leading to an increased understanding of self-motivation and goal achievement
While these are some fundamental benefits of online learning, what other benefits have you seen?
